A father-of-two in the UK is earning good money thanks to his glamping pod, inspired by the hit dating show “Love Island.” Derry Green was captivated by the look and feel of the reality TV show and decided to recreate it in his own backyard. Following YouTube tutorials, Green spent around $7,500 to construct his version of Love Island, which has become a viral sensation nationwide. Within three days of finishing the high-glamour property, bookings worth more than $251,000 had been made and the site sold out for two years. His creation has since become the most booked glamping site in the UK.
“We’ve even had some of the previous cast come and stay at the site, with them making content around the place and comparing it to the show,” Green told reporters. “Other guests have flown into the UK retreat from as far as New York, and Green hopes to host the show’s producers one day.” Spurred on by his success, Green is now building a second glamping site – the Secret Garden – which will feature nine more pods inspired by the same show that captured his imagination.
Green, who hand builds each unit himself with the help of his son, is passionate about creating bespoke, unique properties with inspirations drawn from different places such as wallpaper designs, scenic landscapes and other elements around him. The self-proclaimed “fluid process” has produced an enviable level of attention and buzz for his island paradise-inspired property.
