A Brooklyn apartment that served as rapper Jay-Z’s “stash spot,” was mentioned in his hit song “Empire State of Mind,” and was home to a vibrant community of black artists, is now on the market for $1.4 million, according to The New York Post. The unit, 3B, is located in the Boerum Hill neighborhood where Jay-Z lived in the 560 State St. building during late 1996 and early 1997. It’s rumored that he lived in unit 10B at the time, but in 2012 he told the occupant of that apartment that his old pad was actually in 10C. Jay-Z visited the building in 2019 and said he felt like crying upon returning. The apartment spans more than 1,000 square feet and includes central air conditioning, in-unit washer/dryer, and a 6,000-square-foot shared courtyard with an outdoor kitchen, refrigerator, and barbecue pit.

The rapper once claimed to reside in unit 10B, but in 2012 allegedly revealed to the current resident that his old place was 10C. The unit that is for sale, 3B, is a sun-filled duplex occupying over 1,000 square feet, and features two bedrooms and 1.5 bathrooms, a well-equipped kitchen with a center island and stainless steel appliances, and an in-unit washer/dryer. The building’s shared outdoor area includes a gas-fired barbecue pit, outdoor kitchen with sinks and a refrigerator, and gas lamps to illuminate the area at night. Corcoran holds the listing.
